Generation What?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot. The lost generation somewhere between Generation X and Millennials. The kids born between the release of A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. Kids whose lives were defined by characters and creations that have become the saddest puppet of capitalism. Yes, I recognize that those characters were born from the very same sad capitalism that marketed to children in patriotic colours of Regan’s USA. That’s what really makes it sad. Bold primary colours denoting good and bad or virtuous and conniving. It all boils down to how the media of our youth ill prepared us for the truths of our future.

Our lives now devoid of primary colours and filled with the human debris left desolate by our now-fracturing existence. The heroes of the past now the playthings of their own reckoning. In the vacuum left behind by the passing of our culture two ideologies are having a war. Those who think in primary colours and those who wish they could. The people with the broadest palate have the least resources. Those who think the primary colours will never die have the most. And those resources are dwindling fast. This war is costing us… much more than the human cost of war. Those with the most commitment to their cause believe in attrition. It’s costing us an opportunity.

There’s an opportunity to tear down the machine that pumped out those primary colours in it’s prime. It doesn’t work anymore. The leaks in the pipes that used to hold in the crimes against humanity are pouring out a deluge of suffering and it’s overwhelming for any individual to contemplate. The Giant is falling. What will take its place?
